The Grind- Artist Reception

This was at The Grind - Coffeehouse the night of June 12th. Tony Smiley preformed live, his music was amazing and full of passion. I'd say its a mix between alternative, electronic and dub. Tony really brought the place to life, heres his link if you'd like to check out some of his live music recording.
As for the art.....I sold 4 prints...and I had a great time.

Papa Owl

Water Color 7X14
This piece has the most meaning behind it. I painted it representing someone who has a special place in my heart.
First I sketched out the placement of the guitar and hand, then i added detail into the fingers making sure the proportion was right.
I had to work quickly because water color dries fast and once you put it down you can't change it to much or it will just wipe away. So I was very careful with mixing the right shade of grey before putting it on the paper. This was definitely a challenging piece, it was my first time using water color at this level and I learned a great deal. I finished the piece in one sitting but it took me a good 4-5 hours of non stop painting to complete.

Shadow

Acrylic Paint on Neon Green Poster Paper
There weren't really any steps to this one. I basically just put black paint where I thought it should go. Although I did not use brush strokes. I dabbed the paint brush instead. For lighter shading I would use less paint and dabb with a lighter hand.
If you can't figure out the subject matter (some people need tips) :
-Theres a hand holding an arm in the lower left hand corner
-A neck and coller bone in the upper mid section of the painting.

Craft in the Village

This was on June 5th in Down town Vancouver on Main st. Unfortunatly it was wet and rained. However there was a pretty good turn out of people considering the weather and I was able to sell two prints. One was my piece titled "papa owl" you can find that on my guerrilla-media page. The other was a piece titled "Shadow" this one is also on my guerrilla-media page. This was my first time exposing my art to the public out on the street, thanks to Olin and Anni from Guerrilla-media.

was called "no identity" but its been removed

This is one of my favorite pieces! I was inspired by Ben Dagger.
Its 36" x 36" on canvas
Ink, and Acrylic Paint.
Steps:
sketched on the subject matter (faces)
I stood the canvas up and globbed on watered down arylic paint then i let it drip
I did this several times.
started adding the shadows to the face: around nose under cheek bones, chin, and neck
layers of the shadow
after i was pleased with the placement of the shadows, i started outlined with black ink using twigs....yes twigs :)
I then used the black ink for shadows around the eyes: between nose and eyes and under eye as well as eye lids.
and done!
